6 Series Aluminum Alloy Overview and Features

The 6-series aluminum alloy is an aluminum alloy containing magnesium and silicon as the main alloying elements and Mg2Si phase as the strengthening phase, and is a heat-treated and strengthened aluminum alloy. The alloy has the advantages of moderate strength, high corrosion resistance, no stress corrosion cracking tendency, good welding performance, constant corrosion performance in the weld zone, good formability and process performance, and the like. When the alloy contains copper, the strength of the alloy can be similar to that of the 2 series aluminum alloy, and the process performance is better than that of the 2 series aluminum alloy, but the corrosion resistance is deteriorated and the alloy has good forging performance. The most widely used of the 6 series alloys are the 6061 and 6063 alloys, which have the best overall performance. The main products are extruded profiles and are the best extruded alloys. The alloys are widely used as building profiles.

The current production of 6-series aluminum alloy grades: 6005, 6060, 6061, 6063, 6082, 6201, 6262, 6463, 6A02, the following details for you to introduce their respective uses.

6 series aluminum alloy main use

6005 Extrusion profiles and tubes for structural parts that require greater strength than 6063 alloys, such as ladders, TV antennas, etc.

6009 car body panel

6010 sheet: car body

6061 requires a variety of industrial structures with high strength, weldability, and corrosion resistance, such as pipes, rods, and shaped timber for trucks, tower buildings, ships, trams, furniture, mechanical parts, precision machining, etc. Plate

6063 industrial profiles, building profiles, irrigation pipes and extrusion materials for vehicles, benches, furniture, fences, etc.

6066 Forgings and Welding Structure Extrusion Materials

6070 Heavy Duty Welded Structures and Extrusion Materials and Tubing for the Automotive Industry

6101 high-strength bars, electric conductors and radiators for buses, etc.

6151 is used for forging crankshaft parts, machine parts and production rolling rings for the requirements of good forgeability, high strength, and good corrosion resistance.

6201 high-strength conductive rods and wires

6205 thick plate, pedals and high impact extrusions

6262 Threaded high-stress parts requiring corrosion resistance superior to 2011 and 2017 alloys

6351 Vehicle's extruded structure, pipelines for water, petroleum, etc.

6463 Construction and Various Appliance Profiles, and Car Decorative Parts with Anodized Finishes and Bright Surfaces

6A02 Aircraft Engine Parts, Complex Shape Forgings and Die Forgings
