WBMS: From January To October 2018, The Global Primary Aluminum Market Is Short Of 246,400 Tons

According to the world bureau of metals statistics (WBMS), from January to October 2018, the global primary aluminum market was short of 246,400 tons of supply.

In 2017, the raw material market was short of 1.21 million tons.

The demand for primary aluminum from January to October 2018 was 49.54 million tons, 745 million tons less than the same period in 2017.From January to October 2018, primary aluminum production increased by 118,000 tons year on year.

No further manufacturer inventory data will be released. The total inventory was reported to have increased by 40,000 tons in October, only a small increase from December 2017.

LME primary aluminium stocks rose 60, 000 tonnes in October as inventories rose in Malaysia and Singapore.

LME aluminium stocks stood at 2.348 million tonnes at the end of October and 2.346 million tonnes at the end of 2017.As of the end of October 2018, the total inventory of the four major exchanges in London, Shanghai, the United States and Tokyo was 1.869 million tons, down 74,000 tons from the end of December 2017.From January to October 2018, global primary aluminum production increased by 0.2% year on year.

China's primary aluminum production is estimated at 27.14 million tons, accounting for 56 percent of global production.In the same period, China's apparent consumption of primary aluminum increased by 1.8% compared with January to October 2017.

China's net exports of unwrought aluminum from January to October were 309,000 tons, up from 303,000 tons a year earlier.Net exports of semi-finished aluminum products in the january-october period were 4.069 million tons, up from 3.194 million tons a year earlier.

Primary aluminium production in the 28-country European Union was 1.1 per cent lower than a year earlier, while production in the north American free trade area fell 4.4 per cent.

Demand for primary aluminum in 28 eu countries increased by 110,000 tons over the same period in 2017.

From January to October 2018, global primary aluminum demand declined by 1.5% year on year.

In October 2018, the global output of primary aluminum was 4.8493 million tons and the consumption was 4.898 million tons.
