According to data released by the International Aluminium Institute (IAI), global aluminium production in Q2 2023 reached 34.613 million tonnes, increasing by 3.72% compared to the previous quarter but decreasing by 2.65% year-on-year. Aluminium oxide production in June 2023 was 11.31 million tonnes, down by 4.78% compared to May and a 4.4% decrease compared to the previous year. Total global aluminium oxide production for H1 2023 was 67.985 million tonnes, a 1.63% decrease compared to the same period in 2022. Daily aluminium oxide production in June was 0.377 million tonnes, compared to 0.383 million tonnes in May and 0.394 million tonnes in June 2022.
In Q2 2023, China's aluminium oxide production reached 20.465 million tonnes, an increase of 6.48% from Q1 2023 but a slight decrease compared to the previous year's Q2 production of 20.447 million tonnes. Aluminium oxide production in China in June 2023 was 6.735 million tonnes, down by 3.23% compared to May and a 2.53% decrease compared to June 2022.
In the Oceania region, aluminium oxide production in Q2 2023 was 4.729 million tonnes, increasing by 1.96% compared to the previous quarter but a significant decrease of 6.25% compared to the previous year's Q2 production of 5.044 million tonnes. Aluminium oxide production in Oceania in June 2023 was 1.521 million tonnes, down by 6.17% compared to May and a 7.54% decrease compared to June 2022.
